With the sudden proliferation of classic cover shows lately hitting everywhere from 9910 to the Winspear lately, it’s also beautiful — as Robert Plant so ably demonstrated at Folk Fest this year — to be able to hang out with the original, still-rocking artists.

While Technotronic, Vanilla Ice and Snap! are bumping at Edmonton Expo Centre on January 26, on Thursday we can rewind the nostalgia another decade back right away and hop onto a spectacular ’80s pop lineup.

Honeymoon Sweet will bring us New Girl Now and Wave Babies, Flock of Seagulls I Ran (So Far Away) and Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You).
Add to this mix Men Without Hats — who I can attest still deliver a killer show — with Pop Goes the World and Safety Dance, and — the memories! — Spoons will likely deploy their Nova Heart and infectious Romantic Traffic.
Tickets all in start at $79.10 at ticketmaster.ca and the buffet gig starts at 8 p.m. at River Cree, 300 East Lapotac Blvd.
As far as those cover shows mentioned at the top — Classic Albums Live’s take on Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust on April 4 at Festival Place comes to mind — please check out the online version of The List at edmontonjournal.com, with gigs stretching late into next year.
The List is published every Thursday. If you have events you’d like amplified or have any corrections or updates, please email fgriwkowsky@postmedia.com.
