I, Diana
Stage 2 The Next Act Backstage Theatre 10330 84 Ave.
4 stars out of 5
Local lights Sue Huff and Kevin Tokarsky star in this new work by Edmonton playwright and director Linda Wood Edwards. Light, fun and frothy, I, Diana traces the romantic entanglements of a world-class narcissist who imagines herself as the Roman goddess of the hunt (She’s most definitely on the prowl).

The setting of the 60-minute comedy is Diana’s home on Mother’s Day as she awaits a call, or a text, or anything really, from her three children.
But as the show progresses, the audience gets the impression that motherhood wasn’t exactly Diana’s priority.
She churns through a series of celebrity look-alike husbands, each amusingly portrayed as a man sporting an extraordinary head of hair. There’s the one that resembles Don Johnson in Miami Vice, and the one that looks like Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones and Whatever That Was.
Each husband shows more concern for her children than the titular character, but that’s only a problem for Diana when it deflects attention from her.
There’s some fancy dancing, suggestive snuggles, and at least one big moustache. All in all, I, Diana is a classic romp at the Fringe.
