As crews continue to battle the Jasper wildfire, Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston took to Instagram to share fond memories of celebrating his 35th wedding anniversary in the region.
Cranston and his wife, Robin, visited Jasper in July as a stop on a tour of Western Canada to celebrate their anniversary. The trip, which he’s currently documenting piece-meal on his Instagram account, started in Vancouver and ended in Calgary, visiting “all the magnificent scenery of the Canadian national parks in between,” he said in his first post.

“Our trip was just before the greater Jasper area was hit with a devastating forest fire,” Cranston wrote in his latest post. “When the area recovers, they will be in great need to get up and running again and welcome tourists back to this glorious part of the world. It’s worth the trip.”
The Cranston’s arrived in Jasper via rail, taking the Rocky Mountaineer train tour through the Canadian Rockies. The couple stayed in a log cabin at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge and enjoyed a tour of Maligne Lake.
“And yes, it really is turquoise,” Cranston said. “Stunning views on this glacial lake.”
During this trip, Cranston got a first-hand look at the damage forest fires cause, passing through an area that was damaged the year prior, which he was told was started by carelessness.
There are currently 119 active wildfires burning in forest protection areas throughout the province with 15 of those classified as out of control, 42 are being held and 62 are under control.
Evacuees were bused into Jasper Monday and Tuesday to tour the damage, and Joe Zatylny, deputy managing director for the Alberta Emergency Management Agency, said future tours will be planned based on interest. Evacuees can sign up for a tour online at alberta.ca/emergency.
